Once again a group led by Prof. Chris Smith and Dr. Don Christensen will travel to Guatemala this January. The trip will examine the violence and oppression that still exists in the lives of the indigenous Mayan people there, and has for decades. We will also participate in a traditional Mayan ceremony, explore aspects of Mayan spirituality, and travel throughout the highlands visiting many cooperatives and projects.
LET’S SAVE SOME ENERGY BY TURNING OFF THE LIGHTS! It would be a great earth habit to be aware of whether a light is on because we really need it NOW, instead of ‘needed it before and forgot to turn it off’ or ‘might need it later.’ Even if you’ve made the switch to compact fluorescents, turn ‘em off:
But doesn't it take more energy to start up the light than it does to run the lamp for several minutes? In a word: No.
There are many committees at UTS that need student representatives. SEC is looking for your participation. Let us know what committee you would like to serve on for the 2008-2009 school year. Being part of a UTS committee is an opportunity for students to have a voice other than in the classrooms. Please fill out the attached form and place it in the blue "Suggestion" Box in the Context Cafe, return it to Mailbox #91, or the SEC mailbox.
