ROLE OF THE LEADERSHIP ADVISORY GROUP

 

 

A.        COMPOSITION OF GROUP

 

          1.    In order to have a Leadership Advisory Group (LAG)in place as soon as the placement

              begins, the field instructor is asked to appoint four or five members to be part of this

              group before the student's work begins in the church.

        2.   Members should be invited based on:

                  (a)   their interest in being in an advisory and consultative role with a student;

                  (b)   their interest in the areas of the student's ministry responsibilities at the church.

  3.  The student may choose to add one or two new members as she/he gains familiarity with

       the site and with her/his own professional needs.

        4.  The field instructor will be a member of the LAG.

 

B.   GROUP TASKS

 

           1.   This group will have the following responsibilities:

(a)  Reviewing the position description and the student's learning agenda.

(b)  Serving as an advisory, consultative, and feedback group for the student through
monthly meetings scheduled, planned, and facilitated by the student.

(c)  In consultation with the student, observing and evaluating the student's leadership
in ministry in areas where the student has program responsibilities.

(d) Each member of the group is asked to complete a midyear evaluation (due in

      December) and one final evaluation (due in May) in consultation with the student

      and field instructor.  These reports will be important components in determining

      the final grade for CS251/252 and will be filed with other seminary course

      evaluations.

 

C.   ADVISORY GROUP MEETING

 

       1.   The advisory group will normally meet monthly (for approximately 90 minutes) at

             meetings scheduled, planned and facilitated by the student in consultation with the field

             instructor.

 

D.   AGENDA FOR ADVISORY GROUP MEETINGS

 

          1.     Agenda will vary but the following components might be included (though not

             necessarily all of them in one meeting):

                   (a)  a brief time of worship.

                   (b)  a time for group building.

                   (c)  a time for the student to share what is going on in class and for the group to

                         discuss how the context informs that material.

 (d)  a time for general feedback to the student about her or his work in the setting.

                   (e)  a time to discuss any particular leadership concerns in the area of the student's

       responsibilities.
