END-OF-SEMESTER EVALUATIONS

At the end of each semester or at the conclusion of a summer internship, interns participate in a process of evaluation within their ministerial contexts. The evaluative method is one of reflection and conversation between the intern and the field instructor, taking into account feedback from the intern's Leadership Advisory Group. Interns, then, report back to the seminary concerning the content of these evaluations. The primary purpose of evaluation is to facilitate the intern's own learning in context, and the following method of evaluation is designed to empower the intern in this process of learning and formation for ministry.

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS

Step 1. Using a form for such purpose [LAG Forms], Interns should solicit feedback from the members of their Leadership Advisory Group (LAG) as input to the process of evaluation.

Step 2. After receiving evaluative input from the Leadership Advisory Group, the field instructor and ministry intern should each separately complete the “End-Of-Semester Evaluation" form in writing. Use extra pages if needed.

Step 3. After separately completing the end-of-semester evaluation form, the field instructor and ministry intern should meet together in order to read and discuss each other’s written evaluations. Both points of similarity and difference can provide fruitful areas for conversation together.

Step 4. Intern and field instructor, together, then report in writing on the nature of their evaluative conversation, using the form titled “Cover Sheet” for this purpose.

Step 5. Interns are responsible for submitting the entire packet of evaluation forms to the CS251/252 or CS253 course instructors at the conclusion of each semester. This packet should include these forms in the following order:
(1) Cover Sheet of evaluative conversation between field instructor and intern;
(2) Intern’s self-evaluation (using the End-of-Semester Evaluation Form);
(3) Field Instructor’s evaluation (using the End-of-Semester Evaluation Form);
(4) Evaluations from members of the Leadership Advisory Group. [LAG forms].

Step 6. Interns enrolled in CS251/252 will have an opportunity to share these evaluations with their classmates in the CS251/252 seminar at the seminary as well as with the instructors of that seminar. (Interns enrolled in CS253 will not always be able to do this.) All interns are also encouraged to share these reports with their Leadership Advisory Groups in order to invite further insight and wider involvement on the issues raised for the intern’s learning. These reports will then be kept in the intern’s contextual studies file at the seminary. Final evaluations from the conclusion of an internship (but not usually mid-year evaluations) will be shown subsequently outside of the seminary at the intern’s written and explicit request to do so.
